‘Urban Boulder’ is an installation, the work focuses on the urban-rural fringe areas, which are a by-product of urbanization. These areas are chaotic and disordered, which has made them withdrawn from mainstream culture.

But during my research, I found that on the other side of their chaos, is a kind of unique urban pattern and texture. These areas reflect the diverse and multi-culture society. Through interviewing with people who live in the urban-rural fringes, I realized their awakening of self-consciousness, their struggle against destine. Their lives are lived in a constant struggle of hope over adversity. Like Sisyphus, the ideal absurd hero in Geek myth who is destined to spend all eternity trying to roll a huge boulder to the top of a steep hill, only to have it roll back down again. I viewed the inhabitants as the urban Sisyphus, who enjoyed their absurdity of happiness.
